Lake Trout Fishing

We fish the Clearwater Bay area of Lake of the Woods for trophy Lake Trout. It is mostly a catch and release fishery that has a surprisingly high population of Lake Trout. Depends on the time of the year and the weather but either trolling or jigging bring in the majority of the fish.

You don't need heavy line or gear. Your bass or pike rod with a full spool of good line will do in most cases. Bring some extra line because if you are lucky enough to get one of those monster Lakers that can grow to 30 pounds plus you will need it. Anyone that says they don't put up much fight hasn't been spooled by one of these fish.
